Opening and Closing Thoughts

I mentioned many weeks ago that I was coming up on my 500th issue. I wasn't sure whether I was going to stop doing the newsletter then, or in the Fall when I hit 10 years. Well, as the time has gone by, I've decided I'm done. It's a relief in a way... the newsletter was getting harder and harder to do. I almost felt like I was letting you down if I didn't have anything exciting to report on. On the other hand, this is going to be something I miss doing. I've done this essentially every week for 9 1/2 years. That's a lot! I tried to think of other things that I had done so consistently for such a long period of time, and it is a short list.

I started the newsletter in the Fall of 1998. My wife and I had just moved, and I wasn't in school. I was trying to make some money before going back to school, so I started doing some computer work. I was in a small business show, and had a sign-up sheet for people to get tips. I think I had seven people sign up, and so it began. The list gradually grew, and eventually peaked over 2,000. The numbers have been dropping each week though, until now where I have over 1,300.

I've reviewed dozens of software packages, hardware devices, and books. The newsletter has had a thought of the week, an emoticon of the week, and more recently, Chris has provided a Digital Photography Tip of the Week. This has definitely become something that people would look forward to each week.

As for the future, the PCIN.net site will continue. I will continue to update the PCIN.net Update blog. I will definitely still post news and tips, and I may still continue to post reviews. We'll have to see if the companies will still send me stuff when I don't have the newsletter. As for Chris, he still has his photography blog. I also have several other blogs (see below).

I want to thank you all for your support. Some of you have been subscribers for years. We've almost become a family. You've been here through the birth of our three children. You've heard about my "toys". You've heard about Lisa's exercising. You've put up with my mistakes in the newsletter. But one thing is for sure... I've sure had a blast!

Graham
